The Beasts Honour The Beasts of Bourbon At The Prince Bandroom

Beasts Of Bourbon are no more. Spencer P. Jones and Brian Hooper sadly both passed away last year but not before one final fling at the Prince Bandroom. Founding members Tex Perkins, Kim Salmon and Boris Sujdovic decided to regroup, adopt a new band name and record a new album 'Still Here' with longtime members Tony Pola (who has been a member since 1990) and Charlie Owen (since 1996).

It's only fitting that they would launch this new album again at the Prince Bandroom. Brian Hooper has a song called "What The Hell Was I Thinking" and Spencer P. Jones contributes in his larconic style "Hospital". There are also a couple of covers with Frank Zappa’s ‘The Torture Never Stops’ and Warren Zevon’s ‘My Shit’s Fucked Up’. It was great to hear these new songs performed live, as well as some Beasts Of Bourbon classics: The Low Road, Drop Out, Chase The Dragon and Bad Revisited. It was pretty funny when Tex Perkins suddenly pointed at me doing that moment of Drop Out with that "fuck that guy" line. The Beasts set ended on a uplifting note with a cover of Spencer's Execution Day.

Support on the night came from local rockers Dallas Crane, who never disappoint. They were loud and rambunctious! What a blast it was when they hit us over the head some Led Zep's Rock And Roll. Been a long time...
