SOME KEY FACTS ABOUT OUR AUDIENCE
What we can tell you about our audience comes from research on the Australian live music industry and music fans by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, University of Tasmania and City of Melbourne (see the links below).
We can make these assumptions about GigBill users:
They attend music events multiple times (45% attend two or more times a year, 20% attend five times or more*).
There are an even number of male and female attendees ^.
They span a wide range of ages but people aged 18-24 have the highest attendance (40%), followed by 15-17 year olds and 25-34 year olds (just over 30% say they attend), 45-54 year olds (just under 30%) and 35-44 years olds (around 25%) ^.
Income is a big influence on gig attendance - people in the highest income quintile are most likely to attend popular music concerts with 37% attending, more than double the attendance for those in the lowest quintile (14%) ^.
People with a graduate diploma or graduate certificate have 'a significantly higher attendance rate at popular music concerts (40%)' than people whose highest academic attainment was Year 10 (16%) ^.
Though 'the bulk' of live music events are attended by people within 50kms, many will travel interstate (6%) and intrastate(12%)*.
People attending live music say they make related purchases on accommodation, fashion, food, beverages and other consumables, fuel and travel expenses, memberships and subscriptions, merchandise, phone and internet as well as tickets**.
