Hot Gigs and Hot Tips- 31 August

You’ll be lucky to get out of bed on Monday in one piece after this weekend! New indie night Visions is launching at Yah Yahs on Friday headlined by Nicholas Allbrook (pictured), plus the Sunifest 2 at the Tote all day Saturday is enough to keep most people busy. But There’s also Apes, Morning Harvey, Stereo Goblin and Mick Harvey! So best to just leave your credit card at the door and just go with the flow.

Tonight at The Gasometer we have Apes playing the last show of their August residency. Their blitzkrieg rock made them some mega fans, but their new direction sees them become more expansive, drawing on wider influences and layering more textures. Go see them live to hear it for yourself! Support comes from Batz and The Rollercanes. More info here

Thursday night Brisbanes Morning Harvey bring their 60s psych to the Workers Club in Fitzroy. They’re on tour for their new single Susanne Monday. You can expect to hear much more from these lads this year. And with good reason! Their lo-fi dream pop will have you humming all day plus they have just been announced as national support for Dandy Warhols tour. More info here

Get your best dress out for this Friday cause it’s the inaugural Melbourne launch of Visions! A new indie rock night at Yah Yahs, brought to you from Sydney by the very stylish, Nic Mckenzie, from Deep Sea Arcade! There’s some killer bands playing, including Nick Allbrook (pictured), Fascinator and Crepes! More info here

As soon as you wake up on Saturday though you’ll need to head to the Tote cause Sunifest 2 is happening all day/night! Starting from 3:30 across 3 stages, the tote is hosting an eclectic mix of punk-rock, art-rock, garage-pop, lo-fi grunge, psych and everything in between! With the Peep Temple, Jaala and Mesa Cosa on the bill, you know it’s gonna get messy. Second year in a row, let’s hope it keeps going every year! More info here

Then once you’ve well and truly recovered from Saturday, come Monday you’ll be itching to go out again! So why not head down to the Workers Club to see Stereo Goblin smash out some dance tunes. Rumour has it, the band features some if not all the members from Northeast Party House, so who knows what you’re gonna get! Weird side project stuff or rehearsals for upcoming tour? Either way, it's worth the spare change you have left to get there. More info here

It's coming close to the end of The National Gallery of Victoria Friday nights, ending September 16. The last 3 events are Mick Harvey, Pierce Brothers and Augie March. Make sure you see one! More info here
